Minor 7th Arpeggio
The minor 7 arpeggio consists of the following scale/chord tones: Root, minor (flatted) 3rd, 5th, and minor (flatted) 7th.
Minor 7 Guitar Arpeggio with root on 6th string
Here is a tab of the A Minor 7th arpeggio, with the root note at the fifth fret of the sixth string:
----------------------5-8-------------------
-----------------5-8------------------------
--------------5-----------------------------
--------5-7---------------------------------
------7-------------------------------------
-5-8----------------------------------------
Here is an alternate fingering of the same arpeggio also rooted on the sixth string:
--------------------3-5---------------------
-----------------5--------------------------
------------2-5-----------------------------
-------2-5----------------------------------
----3---------------------------------------
-5------------------------------------------
The accompanying A Minor 7th chord, with root on 6th string (X = muted string). Use your middle finger on the sixth string and to mute the fifth string, and use your third (ring) finger to barre the first through fourth strings:
------5-----------------------------------
------5-----------------------------------
------5-----------------------------------
------5-----------------------------------
------X-----------------------------------
------5-----------------------------------
Minor 7 Arpeggio with root on 5th string
Here is a tab of the D Minor 7 arpeggio. Be mindful of the fact that that the root here is at the fifth fret of the fifth string; lower register notes on 6th string are also shown in this example as well:
----------------------5-8------------------
-------------------6-----------------------
--------------5-7--------------------------
-----------7-------------------------------
------5-8----------------------------------
-5-8---------------------------------------
The accompanying Dm7 chord, root on 5th string (X = muted or unused string):
------5---------------------------------
---------6------------------------------
------5---------------------------------
-----------7----------------------------
------5---------------------------------
------X---------------------------------
As with any other patterns on the fingerboard, you can shift these into other root positions for other keys.
The illustrations above show fingerings that fall into the positions that overlap commonly used chord voicings. However, any arpeggio can be played anywhere on the guitar neck (though fingering may get tricky in some spots) by using the appropriate chord tones, such as Root, b3, 5th, and b7 to produce the minor 7 arpeggio.
