Tampa Red
Information about bottleneck blues guitarist Tampa Red including brief biography, selected discography, and guitar lessons to study his playing style.
Brief Bio
Hudson Woodbridge was born in 1908 or earlier (he claimed to have been born on Christmas day, 1908) in Smithville, Georgia.
He was one of the prime purveyors of a popular music style of the time called "hokum", a precursor of the Chicago blues with lyrical themes that tended to revolve around the subjects of bootlegging and sexual promiscuity. Some of his most well-known songs are "It's Tight Like That" and "Can't Get That Stuff No More", and "When Things Go Wrong For You (It Hurts Me Too)".
His instrument of choice was a National resonator guitar, but he did use electric guitars as well in his later years.
Other famous guitarists who were strongly influenced by Tampa Red's playing style include Elmore James and B.B. King.
